Baiturrahman Grand Mosque

Central mosque of Banda Aceh , located on the island of Sumatra . Formerly a mosque Sultan of Aceh. Baiturrahman mosque has a single dome which was completed on December 27, 1883.

Furthermore Baiturrahman Grand Mosque expanded into a 3 dome in 1935. Then that expanded again to 5 dome ( 1959-1968 ) . And until now expanded into seven domes. Baiturrahman Grand Mosque is one of the most beautiful mosques in Indonesia.

And has a nice shape , attractive carvings , large yard , and very cool when we were in the room of the mosque. Mosque Baiturrahman a silent witness to the history of the struggle of Aceh , which is the downtown Banda Aceh and is the pride of the people of Aceh.

Baiturrahman Mosque is a religious symbol , courage , and the nationalism of the people of Aceh . Built during the Sultan Iskandar Muda ( 1607-1636 ) . And became the center of religious science education in the archipelago.

In wartime defense Baiturrahman Mosque became the center of people of Aceh when the war against the Dutch ( 1873-1904 ). When the Dutch attacked the city of Banda Aceh in 1873 , the mosque was burnt . At the time , Maj Khohler the forehead were shot dead by troops in the courtyard of the mosque highway Aceh.

To commemorate these events built a small monument at the front left of the grand mosque . Precisely under the tree ketapang. And six years later to quell the anger of the people of Aceh , the Dutch through the Governor General Van Lansnerge rebuild this grand mosque with the laying of the first stone in 1879.

Until now, the grand mosque has undergone renovation and expansion of 5 times ( 1879-1993 ).
